Vassos Kanellos (1880-1965)

Vassos Vanellos, born in Southern Greece, met Isadora and Raymond Duncan in Greece. He went to Athens to study with Isadora and Raymond in 1904. He later developed his own form of Ancient Greek dance/theatre using Greek music and folk music intertwined with dances. He and his wife Tanagra (1892-1937), from Minnesota, developed an Hellenic Festival and toured Greece, Europe, America and other countries. Their daughter Xenia Tanagra Kanellos shared in the dance and performances and carried on their work until her death.
