Schubert — Moment Musical, D. 780, No. 3

This flirtatious dance is technically challenging with it's quick change of directions and extreme use of the torso to drive the movement into the space. Springing and turning presents every moment with new gestures and intentions. The pathways shift from curved to straight with surprising use of traveling actions both upstage and down. The audience is taken on a roller coaster ride and graciously acknowledged in the final gesture.

This dance is probably the most difficult dance to perform well. The feeling of surprise must be present. Never anticipate the music. Make your change of direction very sharp. It was performed as an encore piece by Isadora, probably presented in a playful and perhaps flirtatious manner.

Sprightly and vibrant, Moment Musical (circa 1908) captures the giddiness of young love, a world of imagination where relationships exist in dreams and visions. The soloist flirts with her lover through coy glances and sweet smiles. She is fully aware that her jovial dance delights and entices him and with this knowledge, she revels in the pleasures of her movements, skipping, darting, turning, and hopping to Schubert's infectious rhythms.
