Schubert — German Dance, D. 783, No. 5 (Parting)

Notes

Christy Cornell-Pape

This dance is a duet. The couple stands together in the center facing each other to start, arms out toward each other, hands down, fingers not quite touching. The opening movement is a backwards waltz as the dancers continue to look at each other, one hand staying at chest height, the other arm opening up, propelled by the chest, towards the heavens. At the end of the phrase, the movement is suspended and the dancers come back together again, running. This repeats. Then, the dancers join, to move picturesque and happy in a circle and back, coming to rest in the opening position, this time hands joined.
